Email is dead. If you are under 22 years old, then you already know this truth. Email is useless, a waste of time, and has no purpose other than to complicate and aggravate.  It’s a dinosaur technology. If you don’t know that by now, then you too are at risk of becoming obsolete.  The new business customer doesn’t email. They communicate via text, blogs, social networks (facebook, twitter, mash-ups, etc.), IM,  or other portals, including their own private label portal.

The Problem with Email. It’s unreliable for project/event management, customer relationship management, or for that matter running a business. In a recent survey,  participants reported on average, a 10-30%  loss of legitimate emails due to malfunctioning spam/virus filters, wrong email addresses, and so on.

Project Management and Email. Let’s say you have a project/event that you need to manage. There are several people (aka stakeholders) working on it. You as the project manager, have the total picture of the project. Now you need to communicate to others about the ‘total picture’ (e.g, information, file attachments, etc.). So, what do you do if you use email? You begin breaking up the total picture into little pieces and send it as email to the various stakeholders who are involved in your project. They in turn, must take those little pieces of the total picture and assemble them out of their inbox (or voicemail, fax) into their own system. So what you end up with is several stakeholders with their own version of the total picture assembled in their own computer/system. Pretty dumb concept.
